can anyone give me some suggestions as too what equipment i should use for max dmg with melee
Duel wield or 2 hander
Plus which armor type?

2h sword with heavy (or medium) armor.
2h sword max damage is q*2+52
q being quality of sword, so q100 should be 252 damage.. and dont forget to check speed (usually 20+ is good enough), i do not know what max speed is in 2h sword.

so then dual wielding is a waste?
PS can anyone tell me if this game has instances (dungeons)
Also how do i get my first speacial quaity weapon?

Also i still dont understand malus completly
Whats the difference if i switched from HA to MA
Besides the protection difference?
Also is ranged pretty powerful?

malus is % that increases your actions cost.
if malus is 10, then hp/sap/stam/time credits cost is increased 10%
HA is a must for tanks, most protection, easy to get parry bonus.
MA is less protection than HA, but also has less malus, so you can use sword and amps with one armor
different mobs do different damage, slash/blunt/pierce.
armors have 3 "max vs", one for each.
for ranged, you need ammo... and lots of it (so, you should dig your own mats and craft your own ammo).
also, you need bulk to hold that ammo/mats... and lots of bulk.
for launcher, you only can hold 12 bullets max, packer can hold 33 bullets for launcher
for pistol and rifle, some 1200 or so bullets, then you get overweight and cant move anymore
about dungeons/instances: nope, nothing exactly like that (and dont think Ryzom needs anything like that either).
dual wield: you can only dual wield 1h sword and dagger or 2 daggers, it has it uses. cant kill nothing solo tho
about equipment: all is player crafted. only one armor is coming from NPC boss, and it's hard as hell to kill, and it's q200 HA.. shiney tho.
check either merchants (if you in a hurry) or ask in guild chat
